The French farce "The Cage of the Mad" ("La cage aux folles") had its premiere in February 1973 in Paris. Masterfully constructed by the famous actor and comedian Jean Poiret as a comedy of situations, confusions, and characters, it won over the audience at first sight and experienced over 2000 reruns.
Playful and entertaining, but also bravely interwoven with serious themes never before presented in such an explicit and audacious manner, the text touches on very complicated topics with humor and ease: the need for social acceptance, sexual freedom, choice in love, and the need to maintain personal integrity.
Set in Saint-Tropez, in the cheerful 70s, the play "Cage at Cocoons" shows that fifty years later, these questions are still open and provoke dialogue through the same structure of humor, playfulness, and impudence.
